NpO is an expert system than can reproduce a complete journal online (daily paper, weekly magazine, or any other kind of periodical), keeping as far as possible to the readability and page layout of the normal printed version, by converting the contents into NITF format (the standard established by the International Press Telecommunications Council - see www.iptc.org).
The system lets web users read the journal easily and quickly, picking which articles to read, and which photos, small ads or other advertising to browse with just a click of the mouse. NpO 2.0 gives the online reader a easy, quick and full experience
NpO 2.0 is an outsourcing service offered to any publisher by Tio Web Services (a business unit of TicinOnline SA).
The service works from PDF files uploaded by the publisher via FTP, and can extract all the content in text, JPG/GIF or hyperlink format. The data, formatted as HTML pages or in Flash according to a predefined layout, are stored and indexed in an NITF database.
The service's standard turnaround times are remarkably fast: if all the journal material is received in PDF format by 2am, the online version will be available to users between 06:00 and 08:00 in the morning.
A journal produced with NpO 2.0 can have various kinds of graphic format:
journal prepared by NpO 2.0 can be read in any of the following ways:
by leafing through the pages using the "forward" and "back" buttons/keys;
by choosing a particular page;
by choosing a particular column or section of the journal;
by selecting a back number from the archive.
Access protection The NpO 2.0 system also provides special access protection: users can access the NpO 2.0 system as many times a day as they want, but from a limited number of computers (as determined and agreed by the publisher).
Statistics NpO 2.0 can work with any web statistics reporting system. In particular, NpO 2.0 is already set up with Google Analytics.
Internet advertising in the e-paper version With NpO 2.0 you can add code from an ADServer under an Internet advertising plan. What's more, NpO 2.0 is already set up for ADSense Google content activation.
What are the benefits of NpO 2.0 for the publisher? The main advantage publishers can get from the NpO 2.0 system today is reader loyalty: the journal is available instantly, anywhere - keeping up with the times and with new technology.
Service The NpO 2.0 service by Tio Web Services has been designed to meet publishers' real requirements. The NpO 2.0 project grew out of an earlier (2000) version, NpO. It gives priority to the publisher's needs, both administrative and operational. First of all, it is offered as a service instead of selling technology; it results from a thorough analysis on the basis of past assessments and future visions of Internet use and the new technologies such as "e-ink devices" (eReaders) and mobile phones (like the iPhone). The NpO 2.0 solution enables publishers to cut their up-front investment and overheads, considerably lowering corporate risk but still making the most of the opportunity to have a market presence with a high-tech solution that matches users' real needs.
